Your Questions Answered

Following the third set of community consultation events held in September 2011, a number of common concerns came to light from the feedback you submitted. This page addresses those concerns.

Who would own Brookwood Farm Country Park?

The country park would never leave the ownership of Woking Borough Council. It is CALA's understanding that the land would be held in perpetuity as a country park to be used as public open space, and would be afforded a similar designation to ‘common' land.

Details of the open space and SANG, or Suitable Alternative Natural Green space, are to be agreed with Natural England. Please see the Country Park page for more details.

Concern over the increase in traffic

CALA's highway consultants have undertaken a robust and thorough Transport Assessment (TA) which has modelled the predicted increase in traffic and the impact on the highways network.

It is likely that various queue management methods would be utilised, such as re-configuring sets of traffic lights to ensure they are co-ordinated with one another, to help manage the additional traffic the scheme would generate. This would also improve the existing situation and help ease congestion.

It is also important to note that Surrey County Council, the relevant highways authority, will be consulted on the proposals as a statutory consultee, during the planning process.

Concern over the location of the affordable housing block

CALA has spent a lot of time considering the most appropriate location for the elderly people's accommodation (which uses similar principles to sheltered accommodation) and believes that the most appropriate private location with access to the country park is at the northern end of the site.

Concern over an increase in anti-social behaviour on the country park

The scheme will respect a number of entrances into the country park, which should prevent scooters and other vehicles accessing the park. CALA has designed its sustainable housing scheme in such a way so as to provide an element of natural surveillance over the country park, which should help the community to prevent anti-social behaviour.
