What is the London Sustainable Industries Park?

The London Sustainable Industries Park will provide the focus for the largest concentration of environmental technology industries in the UK.

This flagship development scheme will provide over 125,000 square metres of high quality, environmentally friendly business space for one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world.

The park's first occupier Closed Loop Recycling has paved the way, showing that the sector can bring world leading technology and quality jobs to Barking and Dagenham. The award winning Closed Loop Recycling plant is the first in the UK to recycle plastic soft drink and milk bottles back into ‘food grade' plastics for use by companies such as Marks & Spencer and Coca Cola.

The London Sustainable Industries Park is already bringing new life to East London and creating a national focal point for the research and development of new environmental technologies.

Why is it being developed here?

With the recent decline of many of East London's traditional manufacturing industries, significant areas of ‘brownfield' or previously developed land have lain under-used.

Barking and Dagenham Council recognised the growth and jobs potential of environmental technology businesses and has identified Dagenham Dock as a suitable location for development of this sector.

Over the last two years the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation has invested around £40 million, assembling around 25 hectares (c. 60 acres) of sites and is now working with developers Goodman to bring forward the Park.

Improving local transport links, good access to both Central London and the regional road network and the availability of wharfage for river transport make this an ideal location. The aim is to create a development model which others will follow, establishing a benchmark for environmental technology business parks elsewhere in London, the UK and beyond.
